A BBHQ Insta-Quote:

America is not a place. America is an idea that lives in a place known as the United States. America declares that if you invest yourself in making a better life, you will not have your chance to succeed stolen by the an oppressive government.

Today we offer a little nostalgia for boomers, and a little Christmas spirit... from a time when life was so much simpler.

New York, New York – It’s a Wonderful Town!

The one telltale marker of the defiant Occupy Wall Street crowd is that familiar odor of the 60s “peace marches” permeating the air from the center outward. I suspect that that is the binding force that holds them together. Truth be told, the bigger crowd on Wall Street was tourists trying to take pictures in front of the iconic Wall Street Bull. Yes, we were among them.

Eye Remember... November 28:

On this day in 1590, Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan reached the Pacific Ocean in his attempt to find a western route from Spain to Indonesia. We have no video of the event, so the deniers may believe that it never happened.

We are not among them.

But otherwise, November 28 was a fairly platitudinous day.

Well, except that on November 28, 1995, the federal government acknowledged that it was stupid to try to set a highway speed limit of 55 mph. So, the double-nickel went the way of the buggy whip... 21 years ago today.

And now, a word from our sponsor:

It's the genuine octopus end table. Made of solid aluminum; no octopi were injured in the manufacturing of this wonderful gift item.

Five-star rating at Amazon!

And who would not be thrilled at seeing this under the tree on Christmas morning?

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser & Subscriber Evaluation
Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question:
And this is a doozie. It is more of a history question than a current events question. It is an interesting piece of trivia, though we are not sure of its significance. Anyway... here goes:
Prior to the election of Donald Trump, who was the last Republican to be elected president without a Bush or a Nixon on the ticket? (No fair; use your noggin; don't look is up. Take a guess.)

2. Inspired by the BBHQ Monday Morning Upper, who played the part of Jim Anderson on "Father Knows Best"?

3. From a classic boomer-era song, finish this line: Up up and away... in my beautiful, my beautiful

The BBHQ Joke of the Week
When a patient was wheeled into the emergency room, the nurse on duty asked her, "On a scale of zero to ten with zero representing no pain and ten representing excruciating pain, what would you say your pain level is now?"

The patient shook her head. "Oh, I don't know. I'm not good with math."

Have a great week. We'll share the fun again next Monday.
