A BBHQ Insta-Quote:

Thanksgiving Day! In the days of our founders, they were willing to give thanks for mighty little, for mighty little was all they expected. Those old boys in the Fall of the year, if they could gather a few pumpkins, potatoes and some corn for the winter, they was in a thanking mood. BBHQ
But if we can't gather in a new car, a new radio, a new tuxedo and some government relief, we feel like the world is agin' us.

BBHQ Monday Morning Upper.

Today’s upper is a short skit about a Thanksgiving play as only Crazy Guggenheim could tell it.

In case he goes too fast for you, the show is the first American production of an English comedy, borrowed from a French farce, taken form a Viennese operetta, which was adopted from an Italian opera, which was stolen form a Russian version of a German burlesque from a Japanese movie based on a screen play...

And yes, there is a reference to Floochie Toochie.

Message to retailers: What part of "Black Friday" do you not understand? It's Friday -- one day -- not an entire month!

Message to the rest of us: If you want to stop that stuff, do not participate. Do not join the mob of "Black Friday month" robotic, mind-numbed, blindly obedient consumers. Do not buy Christmas-related stuff from stores that refuse to acknowledge "Christmas." Do not buy from retailers that insult your sensibilities. When their money on the line, believe me, they'll listen.

A Grateful Heart

I had always believed that you cannot. You felt happy... or sad... or whatever. You can control what you do in response to how you feel, but you cannot control how you feel. I was convinced of it. You feel however you feel. Period.

Andy Andrews cast it in a different light. Andy’s presentation on PBS was called “The Seven Decisions.” They are the seven decisions that he believes shape your life. Number five is Choose Happiness: “Today I will choose to be happy.

That got my attention.

Andy admitted that people cannot simply snap their fingers and choose to be happy. “It’s a little more complicated than that,” he acknowledged.

Then Andy explained how essential being grateful is to being happy.

I Remember... November 23

I remember November 23, 1964. The Beatles were on top of the world. On this date, they released "I Feel Fine."

Which was certainly a good thing. Because exactly one year earlier, on November 23, 1963, none of us was feeling fine.

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser

Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question:
Last week, the teacher of a 9th grade class in Salem, Utah prepared a "creative" project for her students. The project was to draw ISIS propaganda posters. The posters were to include the words "how to recruit for ISIS."
True or false?
No; no; a thousand times no! You're just making this up to stir the pot.
Oh yes. It is very much true.

From a classic, 1976 hit song. Fill in the missing words:

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down,
Of the big lake they called 'Gitche Gumee,'
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead,
When the skies of November

3. OK, let's tie into last week's theme song, and do the closing verse:

So now it's time to say goodbye to Jed and all his kin;
And they would like you folks for kindly droppin' in.
You're all invited back next week to this locality,
To have a of their hospitality.
Hillbilly, that is.
Set a spell;
take your shows off.
Ya' all come back now.

There are no prizes here... it's just for fun.
