It's our annual tribute to Columbus Day. We love traditions! Stan Freberg was a wonderfully creative artist. Today's upper is from his comedy album, Stan Freberg Presents the United States of America.

And now, a word from our sponsor:

This Week with the Chicowitz

Random Thoughts

I’m trying to avoid presidential politics this week... this month... in fact, this entire year. Can’t do it completely. But I have a sprinkling of several topics this week. Though, because the government has infiltrated itself into most everything in our society, it is nearly impossible to avoid politics.

Want guaranteed success in the NFL? Get a quarterback with pinpoint accuracy in short passes, two tall receivers who can catch a pass every time, and a decent offensive line. That’s all. A defense cannot stop a perfectly-thrown, short (3... 5... 10) yard pass to a great, tall receiver. Pass short to one side, the other side, up the middle... you can’t stop it. That's all it takes. A winner, every time.

Explaining the Trump popularity conundrum in two sentences: The press takes Trump literally, but not seriously. Trump’s supporters take him seriously, but not literally.

Eye Remember... October 10, 1973:

Eye remember October 10, 1973.... it was the beginning of the end for the Nixon administration. Richard Nixon was taking hits from all sides in 1973. Nixon's vice president, Spiro Agnew was charged with income tax evasion, strangely enough, because he did not pay income taxes on bribes he allegedly took while he had been governor of Maryland.

The plea deal required that Agnew resign from office and pay a hefty fine.

Things in Washington have generally gone downhill from there.

The BBHQ Bare-Bones Boomer
Assessment Test

Our newest trivia feature is nearly ready for prime-time. Nothing has blown up yet. But we still need your help to test-drive it and tell us what you think

We'd like you to take The BBHQ Bare-Bones Boomer Assessment Test and evaluate it for us. Surely you can get all 25 questions right. That's a given. But we're particularly interested in how it works for you, and what you think of it. (Behind the scenes, it is far more complicated than it appears to be.)

At the conclusion, you can add your comments. Grade the test. We'll use your experience and comments to fine-tune the test before we turn it loose on the Internet.

You can give it a good test run here

Thanks.

This one speaks for itself... boldly:

It's a hand sanitizer. That's all we dare say about it.

Oh, not that we need one, mind you. We're fine. But it's out there.

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser & Subscriber Evaluation
Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question:
Hold your nose; this is about presidential politics.
All Americans, not only in the states most affected, but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large number of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on tax payers.
Who said that?
      Bill Clinton
      Hillary Clinton
      Donald Trump
      Tim Kaine
      Mike Pence
      Anthony Weiner

2. Keep holding your nose. We have another one.
My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders, some time in the future with energy that is as green and sustainable as we can get it, powering growth and opportunity for every person in the hemisphere.
Who said that?
      Bill Clinton
      Hillary Clinton
      Donald Trump
      Tim Kaine
      Mike Pence
      George Bush

3. You can relax now.
You don't know me from Adam. But I was a better man with you as a woman, than I ever was with a woman as a man.

No; it is not from a political figure (thank goodness.) That terrific line comes from a wonderful comedy released in 1982. What's the name of the movie?

Grade our Newsletter: How did we do this week?
      A: Great! Lottsa' fun.

      B: Pretty good.

      C: So-so.

      D: Eh... not so good.

      F: A swing and a miss.

What say you? Comments for the good of the order:

There are no prizes here... it's just for fun.

The BBHQ Joke of the Week
This week's humorous offering serves as an admonition to always follow your doctor's orders carefully.

I went to the doctor with a badly swollen leg. After a careful examination, the doctor gave me a pill big enough to choke a horse. Then he said, "I'll be right back with some water."

Well, the doctor was gone quite a while and I lost my patience. I hobbled out to the drinking fountain, forced the pill down my throat and gobbled down water until the pill got all the way down. Then I hobbled back into the examining room.

Just then the doctor came back with a bucket of warm water. "Okay, after the tablet dissolves, soak that leg for at least 30 minutes."

Have a great week. We'll share the fun again next Monday.
