The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities.

OK; we just made that up. But still...

Today's upper is a bizarre, cute, and yet important song by PP&M member Peter Yarrow.

This Week with the Chicowitz

Up Periscope

A few days earlier I had visited Dr. Upyurs in his office, where he explained the procedure to me, and showed me the primary tool he would be using:

The prep for the procedure consisted, in my case, of several strong shots of whiskey... straight up, and a straight-jacket to hold me in place. But... it must have worked.

As I laid on the cold, metal table after the procedure, it began to come back to me. I recall now. I had come in for a colonoscopy. Nurse Candy Kane explained, “The doctor found and removed three small polyps. He said they looked unremarkable; but he sent them for a biopsy. He’ll have results in 3-4 days.

I guess I should be relieved that I had only "unremarkable" polyps.

You can get dressed now,” Nurse Candy instructed me. I wanted to ask her to help me. Ah, yes... I was returning to my old, frisky self. But better judgment... and a touch of vanity prevailed. I should probably do this myself.

I Remember... September 28...

On September 28, 1968, "Hey Jude" hit number 1. I remember that. I also remember that on September 28, 1976, Muhammad Ali beat Ken Norton to retain his heavyweight title.

But far more important, I remember that on September 28, 1963, the nationwide campaign to wipe out polio began. Taken with a lump of sugar, this miraculous drug finally dealt the death blow to the horrible disease that had crippled so many people, primarily young children.

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser

Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question:
A school district in Washington state backed off from a well-intentioned plan to replace the age-old child game or tag with "a 'hands off' idea to help minimize negative physical interactions among elementary school children during recess or unstructured play." The district superintendent explained that there were too many incidents of tags being "too hard and felt more like a hit." Ouch!
True; we have fallen to this level.
No; even today, we are not that stupid. No; just no.

2. From a Peter, Paul and Mary folk song, complete the last line:
When I was just a lad of ten, my father said to me,
"Come here and take a lesson from the lovely
."

3. He came along way before our time, but we all remember his stories. Among them included "The Gift of the Maji" and "The Cop and the Anthem." His real name was William Sydney Porter. But everyone knew him as

The BBHQ Joke of the Week

Everyone has their favorite Yogi-isms. Here are a few that you may not have heard.

Little things are big.

We made too many wrong mistakes.

What Time Is It? You Mean Now?

I couldn't tell if the streaker was a man or a woman because it had a bag on its head.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

Even Napoleon had his Watergate.

The future ain't what it used to be.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.

Always go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't go to yours.

Have a great week. We'll share the fun again next Monday.
