A BBHQ Insta-Quote:

All happy people are grateful. Ungrateful people cannot be happy. We tend to think that being unhappy leads people to complain, but it's truer to say that complaining leads to people becoming unhappy.

Links here are good only for the week of September 11. After that... is anybody's guess.

Our Upper this week was inspired by our "When the Music was Fun" essay.

It is another sing-along. But we do not provide the lyrics. If you do not know the lyrics to this one... please, just move on.

As promised, we are here today... not a day late, not a bypassed week. "Neither rain, nor sleet..." nor even a hurricane. We're here.

But we will be absent next Monday. The hurricane preparedness drill scheduled for Corpus Christi has been moved... to Manitoba... as in... Canada. So while the masses will be heading south next week, we'll be driving north. Barring an unforeseen climate change disaster, we will return with a full-feature newsletter on September 25.

This Week with the Chicowitz

The Big One!

Preparing for the worst, I created a “safe room” and corresponding procedure. When the winds hit hurricane speed outside, Princess and I will hide in the plywood TeePee I built. It's a lesson I learned from my old Boy Scout days: be prepared.

See... we prop this puppy up in the hallway, and what can go wrong?

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser & Subscriber Evaluation
Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question:
"Officials" have issued mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders for residents of half of the state of Florida. If they all complied, about how many refugees would head for higher ground?

  2 million
  3 million
  5 million
  10 million
  20 million

2. Alfalfa frequently sang a love song in order to impress his "main squeeze." What was her first name?

3. We're going to focus on song titles using girls' names here in the trivia section... until... until we run out of girls. We have binders full of them.

This is from a top-30 hit by Chuck Berry in 1964:

As I got on a city bus and found a vacant seat,
I thought I saw my future bride walking up the street,
I shouted to the driver, "Hey conductor, you must slow down
I think I see her please, let me off this bus."
_________, honey is that you?
Oh, ________;
Honey, is that you?
Seems like every time I see you
Darling you got something else to do

Who's the girl?

Grade our Newsletter: How did we do this week?
      A: Great! Lottsa' fun.

      B: Pretty good.

      C: So-so.

      D: Eh... not so good.

      F: A swing and a miss.

What say you? Comments for the good of the order:

There are no prizes here... it's just for fun.

The BBHQ Joke of the Week
"Silence is Golden" - ? Not always.

Professional golfer Tommy Bolt was playing in Los Angeles and had a caddy with a reputation of constant chatter. Before they teed off, Bolt told him, "Don't say a word to me. And if I ask you something, just answer yes or no."

During the round, Bolt found the ball next to a tree, where he had to hit under a branch, over a lake and onto the green. He got down on his knees and looked through the trees and sized up the shot.

"What do you think?" he asked the caddy. "Five iron?"

"No," the caddy said.

"What do you mean, not a five iron?" Bolt snorted. "Watch this shot."

The caddy rolled his eyes. "Nooo, Mr. Bolt."

But Bolt hit it and the ball stopped about two feet from the hole. He turned to his caddy, handed him the five-iron and said, "Now what do you think about that? You can talk now."

"Mr. Bolt," the caddy said, "that wasn't your ball."
