BBHQ Monday Morning Upper.

In the fall of 1981, Simon & Garfunkel agreed to a rare reunion concert to benefit one of New York's iconic landmarks, Central Park. Five hundred thousand fans withstood rain and very cool temperatures to witness a 90-minute concert by the famous duo. Today we share our favorite song from that concert.

Rock On!

To be honest, I was a little worried about the concert ahead of time. I was concerned that the Neil Diamond fans of today would not represent me. Oh, I was right there at the box office the morning the tickets went on sale. While I was waiting in line, I listened to some fat, bald guy try to make a deal for 30 tickets for members of the Elks’ Lodge. The friggin’ Elk’s Lodge!

This may sound extremely parochial, but I am enormously proud of the best of our music. And I am thrilled that Neil Diamond and Jimmy Buffett are still around to perform it... and will be for years to come. And I know this will bring me a lot of hate mail, but do you suppose that N’Sync will still be performing their best stuff — whatever that is — in 30 years? Will J Lo still be strutting her stuff at age 60? Will the artist formerly known as Prince still be known as anything in 2030?

We boomers are very fortunate, indeed!

I Remember... July 13, 1978

"Sometimes you just don't like somebody."

It was as simple as that. On July 13, 1978 Henry Ford II fired Lee Iacocca, then the president of the car company Ford's father founded.

Bad news for Ford; good news for Iacocca and Chrysler. Lee Iacocca went on to save the Chrysler Corporation from disaster, much to the dismay of Henry Ford.

Though my story's seldom told,
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocketful of mumbles,
Such are promises.
All lies and jest
Still, a man hears what he wants to hear
And
