Freedom Month at BBHQ
June 27, 2016

In June, we celebrate the greatest single event in the history of our country...perhaps the history of the world: the birth of freedom.

Links here are good only for the week of June 27. After that... is anybody's guess.

A BBHQ Insta-Quote:

Liberty and Justice go hand in hand. You canít have one with out the other. The more restrictions that you place on Liberty, the more injustice you will receive.

This Week with the Chicowitz

Another Side of Freedom

The basic rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution are paramount to everything that follows. But, as I see it, most of the freedoms that we enjoy every day come from the spirit of America -- the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation, and the marketplace that allows that to flourish.

I remember the first time I walked into a Home Depot. Holy Moly!! My eyes bulged! Under one roof there were hand tools, power tools, lumber, doors, windows, shutters, gutters, siding, paint, glue, washing machines, wires, and more screws, nuts, and bolts than I could possibly imagine. THIS is freedom, I thought. America the beautiful!

Much as I have come to hate most shopping malls, the same principle applies there. No lumber, but most everything else... under one roof.

My point is that we rely on a system of roads, electricity lines, phone lines, water and sewer... an infrastructure which, despite the occasional horror stories, is amazingly reliable. That infrastructure, which you did pay for and you did build, makes everything else possible.

Virtually every hour of every day, in even the furthest corner of the country: flip a switch, and a light goes on; pick up a phone, and talk to anyone in the country; get in our car and drive anywhere... it is nearly unique to our country. This is an essential part of everyday freedom.

And yes; you did build that!

Eye Remember... June 27, 1968:

Elvis: The comeback begins!

By the late 60s, the Beatles had just about buried the traditional rock singers of our generation. Some came back; some didn't. Elvis did.

Big time!

After a strong of forgettable movies and so-so songs, the Colonel recommended Elvis perform a concert for TV. The result, for both for TV and for the king (and the colonel, too), was a huge success.

Recording for the comeback special began on June 27, 1968.

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser & Subscriber Evaluation
Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

OK; participation in our Trivia Teaser last week was way down. Too tough for you, huh? OK, we'll go easy this week (except for #3).

And maybe not even #3?

1. First, our current events question:

The oceans will begin to recede
      Global warming will cease

2. He was known as "Man in Black." No, not Jesse Jackson; not Bill Clinton. Who was he?

3. This goes way back... finish the last line of this 1959 wonderful but sad love song by the Fleetwoods:

Our guardian star
lost all his glow
The day that I lost you.
He lost all his glitter
the day you said "No,"
And his silver turned to blue.
Like him, I am doubtful,
that your love is true.
But if you decide to call on me,

The BBHQ Joke of the Week
A little girl was watching her daddy repair his tractor.

She asked her mother, "What happens to old tractors when they finally stop working?"

Sighing, her mother answered: "Someone sells them to your father, dear."

Have a great week. We'll share the fun again on the 4th of July!
