Links here are good only for the week of June 26. After that... is anybody's guess.

Yes; we are a day late this week. The dog ate our homework.
(Sorry; that's the best we've got.)

Our Upper this week was inspired by our When the Music was Fun essay.

Just plain goofy... and fun.

And yes; we will leave it up through Tuesday.

When the Music Was fun

One of the things that makes the music of the boomer years so special is the goofy songs.

Yes, we had our share of serious songs, protesting all sorts of social ills. But many of us did not take ourselves too seriously. We had plenty of time to laugh. That came through in our music. We had so much fun with our music.

I have a collection of oddball boomer songs. Every now and then, when I am feeling down, I pull some of them out and play them. I offer some of them to you today to remind you to stop being so serious all the time... and just laugh.

My all-time favorite goofy boomer song is "Does Your Chewing Gum Loose its Flavor on the Bedpost Over Night?" by Brit Lonnie Donegan:

Oh me, oh my, oh you.
      Whatever shall I do?
      Halleleuah,
      The question is peculiar.
I'd give a lot of dough,
      if only I could know,
      the answer to my question,
is it yes or is it no?
Does your chewing gum lose its flavor
      on the bedpost over night?
If your mother says don't chew it,
do you swallow it in spite?
Can you catch it on your tonsils,
and you heave it left and right?
Does your chewing gum lose its flavor
      on the bedpost over night?

(And no; this is not deja vu. We like this one so much that we decided to hold it over for a second week.)

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser & Subscriber Evaluation
Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question: My how quickly we forget the less-than-important stuff. Who won the House seat in the Georgia election last week?

the Democrat
the Republican
Al Gore
Bernie Sanders
the real killer of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman

2. It's from a 1967 hit song by the Beatles. The missing words are the song title:

Day after day alone on the hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still,
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he's just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,
      But the
      Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
      See the world spinning 'round.

3. We're going to focus on girls' names here in the trivia section... until... until we run out of girls. We have binders full of them.

      You fill up my senses
Like a night in a forest
      Like a mountain in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
      Like a sleepy blue ocean
      You fill up my senses
      Come fill me again

It's a beautiful love song, but her name is never mentioned.

Who's the girl?

.
