Today we have a very special upper! This is a mix of the Simon & Garfunkel 1981 Central Park concert and the 2003 Old Friends" tour. The song is "American Tune."
It is four minutes long. But it'll be the best four minutes you have all day.

When the Music Was fun

One of the things that makes the music of the boomer years so special is the goofy songs.

Yes, we had our share of serious songs, protesting all sorts of social ills. But many of us did not take ourselves too seriously. We had plenty of time to laugh. That came through in our music. We had so much fun with our music.

I have a collection of oddball boomer songs. Every now and then, when I am feeling down, I pull some of them out and play them. I offer some of them to you today to remind you to stop being so serious all the time... and just laugh.

My all-time favorite goofy boomer song is "Does Your Chewing Gum Loose its Flavor on the Bedpost Over Night?" by Brit Lonnie Donegan:

Oh me, oh my, oh you.
      Whatever shall I do?
      Halleleuah,
      The question is peculiar.
I'd give a lot of dough,
      if only I could know,
      the answer to my question,
is it yes or is it no?
Does your chewing gum lose its flavor
      on the bedpost over night?
If your mother says don't chew it,
do you swallow it in spite?
Can you catch it on your tonsils,
and you heave it left and right?
Does your chewing gum lose its flavor
      on the bedpost over night?

Eye Remember... June 19, 1953:

On June 19, 1953, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who had been convicted of conspiring to pass U.S. atomic secrets to the Soviets, were executed.

"I can only say that, by immeasurably increasing the chances of atomic war, the Rosenbergs may have condemned to death tens of millions of innocent people all over the world. The execution of two human beings is a grave matter. But even graver is the thought of the millions of dead whose deaths may be directly attributable to what these spies have done." - President Eisenhower.
