Freedom Month at BBHQ

In June, we celebrate the greatest single event in the history of our country...perhaps the history of the world: the birth of freedom.

A BBHQ Insta-Quote:

But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing. It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in your States as well as in the Federal Government.

During the summer months, we lighten up a bit... a little less content, a little less seriousness.

But June is Freedom Month at BBHQ. And we take that very seriously.

We are proud to highlight our first e-book as a celebration of Freedom:

America’s Greatness:
Free People, Free Markets

When I was a kid, I tried to figure out why the U.S. was so much richer, so much more powerful, so much further advanced than the rest of the world. I tentatively concluded that natural resources was the main reason. Oil, coal, climate, rich soil... that kind of thing. But many other countries are equally blessed.

Why do millions of Mexicans risk their lives to cross over into Los Estados Unidos? Why do we have the demand for labor that their country does not? Is the climate that much better in San Diego than it is 25 miles south in Rosarito?

The United States was the first country that was founded, based not on a religion, or geographic conditions, or because of the size of an army, but rather based on a belief. That is what makes America great.

But for the refined chef in your family (who has everything else), may we suggest the asparagus peeler.

I Remember... June 13, 1966:

“You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can, and will, be used against you in court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you,”

13 words that changed law enforcement and the judicial system in America.

On June 13, 1966, the Supreme Court ruled on Miranda v. Arizona, a decision which helped balance the scales of justice.

"We can it out."

3. Another memorable line, but surely not from the Beatles:
If he kissed you once, will he kiss you again?

The BBHQ Joke of the Week

Another one of those "We never saw it coming" stories.

A guy is driving around the back woods of Tennessee and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: 'Talking Dog For Sale.' He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

'You talk?' he asks.

'Yep,' the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock, he says 'So, what's your story?'

The Lab says, 'Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.'

I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But the jetting around tired me out, and I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. 'I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired.'

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

'Ten dollars,' the guy says.

'Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?'

'Because he's a damn liar. He never did any of that stuff."

Have a great week. We'll share the fun again next Monday!
