One effect of the boomers taking over academia is that many of the rising generation can go from elementary school through postgraduate education at our

This Week with the Chicowitz

Commencement Speeches

This week I offer commencement speeches of four provocative thinkers.

Kurt Vonnegut (allegedly): “Wear sunscreen. The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.”

Dennis Prager: “The greatest struggle in your life is not with society; it is with yourself.”

Bill Whittle: “Your insistence on being weak and isolated and protected and safe is a guarantee that what we are going to being needing large numbers of in the near future are not graphic designers or game coders or app developers or medieval poetry majors; were gonna’ need warriors.”

Just Because
Remember when Obama's Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano admonished us: "If you see something; say something."

Well, I'm saying something! My cashier at Publix last week was a terrorist organization:

Eye Remember... May 22, 1964:

As part of his campaign to win the position he inherited, President Lyndon Johnson envisioned a massive government program designed to enhance the lives of America's citizens. Like FDR's New Deal, this program would secure political power for Democrats for decades.

In a commencement speech at the University of Michigan, on May 22, 1064, President Johnson provided details of his proposed "Great Society."

We are going to assemble the best thought and broadest knowledge from all over the world to find these answers. I intend to establish working groups to prepare a series of conferences and meetings—on the cities, on natural beauty, on the quality of education, and on other emerging challenges. From these studies, we will begin to set our course toward the Great Society.

And now, a word from our sponsor:

Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question:

President Trump started off his first trip abroad with a stop in what country?

3. Taken from our Joke of the Week (below), "It's a joke son; it's a joke"!
That is a phrase oft-used by this cartoon character. Who is he?

3. We're going to focus on girls' names here in the trivia section... until... until we run out of girls. We have binders full of them.

This was a huge hit in 1961. Rolling Stone magazine has ranked it as one of rock n' roll's best 500 songs.

Ah, I should have known it from the very start,
This girl will leave me with a broken heart.

Who's the girl?

The BBHQ Joke of the Week
This week we offer a little food for thought... but not much thought. Don't take it too seriously. ("It's a joke, son; it's a joke.")

If genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration, I must wind up sharing elevators with a lot of brilliant people.

They say you can't really know someone until you walk a mile in their shoes. I say if they've got itsy-bitsy feet or some kinda foot disease, I don't wanna know 'em!

Remember: you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar... Of course, how you spend your leisure time is your business.

It takes fewer muscles to smile than to frown... and fewer still to ignore someone completely.

Keep your nose to the grindstone and your shoulder to the wheel... it's cheaper than plastic surgery.

I've found a sure way to relieve office stress: Step 1: take a deep breath Step 2: count to 10. Step 3: set the boss's wastebasket on fire.

This land is your land. This land is my land. So stay on your land.

Have a great week. We'll share the fun again next Monday.
