Click the picture for the BBHQ Monday Morning Upper.

Today we offer a short clip from the final scene in "Dinner at Eight," made in 1938. The lovely lady is Marie Dressler; the blonde is Jean Harlow. This clip shows that the early filmmakers were every bit as clever as those on the 21st century.

If this clip does not make you drop on the floor laughing... you'd better check your pulse.

Boomer Retirement: What Will We Do?

So, what are we going to do? Well, we’re not going to do what we did when we were 18. Please!!! But we will have the same spirit. I think that many of us will buy an RV and tour the country for six months or so; maybe fly around the world; spend a month in the Smoky Mountains; a summer at the beach; a winter in Pensacola or Tucson; take the Alaska cruise.

And after we tire of that -- which, of course, we will -- we will open day care centers; we’ll bake and sell cookies to local restaurants or delis; we’ll set up kiosks in a bank or an office plaza to sell cookies or Christmas ornaments. We’ll start landscape businesses; turn our back yards into nurseries, grow and sell flowers; we’ll make and sell crafts. We’ll write poetry and novels and plays and songs; we’ll start catering, home decorating and publishing businesses. And we’ll do it all on our own — outside of the traditional corporate structure. Why? Because we can, that’s why.

Eye Remember... April 14:

1964 was a heck of a year. There was the Beatles "invasion" in January. And then, the big event... the BIG event:

On April 17, 1964, Ford revealed it's newest sporty model, the Ford Mustang:

Though it may not have been aimed at the boomer generation, the timing was perfect. The earliest boomers had just turned 18; 70 million more were on the way, and eager to hit the road.

The Mustang was moderately priced, $2,300, so aggressive boomers could indulge. And indulge, they did. Ford sold more than a million of them in the first 18 months.

Half a century later, the Mustang is still around... as are most of the earliest boomers.

Also worth noting that on April 17, 1970 Apollo 11 suffered a... "problem," as it was first called. NASA ingenuity saved the lives of the three astronauts. On April 17, 1962 the polio vaccine developed by Dr. Albert Sabin began its implementation. And on April 17, 1962, the "Bay of Pigs" operation in Cuba began... and ended shortly afterwards.

Quite a day, huh?

And now, a word from our sponsor:

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser & Subscriber Evaluation
Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question:

They called it a Massive Ordnance Air Blast. But, informally, the media called it what?

2. From a commercial tag line: "Color so natural, only her knows for sure."

3. We're going to focus on girls' names here in the trivia section... until... until we run out of girls. We have binders full of them.
This was a top-10 hit for the Four Tops in 1967:

And when I speak of you I see envy in other men's eyes,
and I'm well aware of what's on their minds.
They pretend to be my friend, when all the time
they long to persuade you from my side.
They'd give the world and all they own
for just one moment we have known.
    __________!

"Brush Up Your Webster," featuring Madam Red Dot
Continuing with my brevity theme... we send you our newsletter each and every week.

Really?

Why "each and every"? Doesn't "each" pretty well cover it? Or "every"? But why "each" and "every"?

Because we're too often sloppy, that's why.

Don't be sloppy. Remember: words are inexpensive. But they are cheap only when you treat them as such.

The BBHQ Joke of the Week
Recipe for Elephant Stew

Ingredients:

1 elephant
brown gravy
salt and pepper
2 rabbits (optional)

Cut elephant into bite-size pieces. This should take about two months.

Cover with brown gravy. Cook over a kerosene fire for about four weeks at 465 degrees.

This will serve approximately 3,800 people. If you expect more, you may add two rabbits. But do this only if necessary as most people don't like hare in their stew.

Have a great week. We'll share the fun again next Monday.
