A BBHQ Insta-Quote:

I sit on a man's back, choking him, and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by any means possible, except getting off his back. Leo Tolstoy

Every boomer remembers the “Let Hertz put you in the driver’s seat” TV commercial. Well, today we show you what went on behind the scenes.

This Week with the Chicowitz

I Want to be Six Again

I want to go to McDonald’s and think it’s the best place in the world to eat. I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make waves with rocks. I want to think M&Ms are better than money, because you can eat them. I want to play kickball during recess and stay up on Christmas Eve waiting to hear Santa and Rudolph on the roof.

I want to go to the Happiest Place on Earth (Disneyland) and not care about the cost, the crowds, or the political correctness that has infected the Magic Kingdom.

Count Your Blessings
Having a tough time? Count your blessings; it could be a whole lot worse. You could be the poor proctologist who had to dress up as a bull in order to perform an exam on this shy matador:

A Few of Our Favorite Things
One of over 200 questions in The BBHQ Pop Quiz collection:

The BBHQ Pop Quiz pops up all over BBHQ. Wander around!

Eye Remember... March 27, 1980:

Years before we decided that global warming was destroying the earth... there it was right in front of our eyes:

After 143 years of calm and tranquility, man's use of fossil fuels caused Mt. St. Helens to blow its top on March 27, 1980.

Never mind that Mt. St. Helens had been erupting periodically for centuries before Al Gore invented global warming.

And now, a word from our sponsor:

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser & Subscriber Evaluation
Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question:
Samworth Church Academy, a high school in Nottinghamshire in the U.K., has banned its students from raising their hands to answer questions because it is unfair to students who do not raise their hands.

Fake News? True or false?

No; you are just mocking political correctness; it's fake.
Yes, sad, but true.

2. In last week's essay, we commented that Donald Trump is no "mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper."
But who was?

3. We're going to focus on girls' names here in the trivia section... until... until we run out of girls. We have binders full of them. This is from a 1967 hit song.

Who's peekin' out from under a stairway
Calling a name that's lighter than air?
Who's bending down to give me a rainbow?
     Everyone knows it's __________.

Who's the girl?

"Brush Up Your Webster," featuring Madam Red Dot
Madam Red Dot Returns!

My theme this year is brevity. If you have little or nothing to say, say little or nothing. Thus my absence from the newsletter these many months.

Last week I noted that misuse of the word "even" is like fingernails on a chalk board. So, other than the obvious, when is it appropriate to use the word?

"I cannot even imagine what it would be like to dive into the lake at 33 degrees, much less seriously contemplate doing it."

It's a comparison between the lesser "imagine" than the greater "contemplate." But it's still awkward. Better to leave off the last part.

"I cannot imagine what it would be like to dive into the lake at 33 degrees."

The BBHQ Joke of the Week
Today we're just playing with words:

Practice safe eating - always use condiments.

Shotgun wedding - A case of wife or death.

A man needs a mistress just to break the monogamy.

A hangover is the wrath of grapes.

Does the name Pavlov ring a bell?

When two egotists meet, it's an I for an I.

A will is a dead give away.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion.

If you don't pay your exorcist, you get repossessed.

Have a great week. We'll share the fun again next Monday.
