A BBHQ Insta-Quote:

A generation that jumps to conclusions on the basis of its own emotions, or succumbs to the passions or rhetoric of others, deserves to lose the freedom that depends on the rule of law.

This is a twist on an unforgettable scene from one of our favorite movies. It’s actually a commercial; but don’t let that deter you. It is extremely creative and cute.

A Higher Calling: For a second year, the Boomer Crew has been called upon to judge a wet T-shirt contest in Pensacola next month.

So we need to do some shifting on our newsletter publication. The March 30th edition will pop up in your mailbox on Sunday, March 29. And the April 6th one will be like Tara: gone with the wind.

(Actually, there will be no April 6th edition, just like there really was no Tara.) We'll have stores and pictures to share on April 13... or 14th. We may be a day late after recovering from the festivities.

This Week with the Chicowitz

We're 65!

In the 50s, the cry of the young boomers was “I want my Maypo!” In the 60s it turned ugly. We shouted, “Hell, no; we won’t go!” We lightened up in the 70s with “I’m a Pepper; he’s a Pepper; she’s a Pepper; wouldn’t you like to be a Pepper, too?” Also in the 70s, the fairer sex cried, “Our bodies, ourselves.” This year, it’s “We’re 65!”

Hey! Neil Diamond is on tour again. Bill Gates is still board chairman of Microsoft. Oprah is not retiring; she is starting her own cable TV station. The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There” played at an NFL game on Sunday. I went to Outback Steakhouse on Saturday night (founders Chris Sullivan, Robert Basham and Timothy Gannon - all boomers). The music in the background included Temptations, Roy Orbison, and Anne Murray.

Post-boomer-era singer Michael Buble wows the crowds with songs by Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and the Drifters. 18 year-old Charice sings “Jingle Bell Rock” on NBC, and knocks ’em dead with “I Will Always Love You.” Jimmy Buffett is still crusin’ in Margaritaville. Cher can still fit into that skimpy, see-through outfit she wore in the 90s. Boomer Barack Obama is now called “the comeback kid.” And Ozzy Osbourne... still has no idea which end is up. So, as I see it... the boomers are still a powerful force in society.

One of over 150 questions in The BBHQ Pop Quiz collection:

The BBHQ Pop Quiz pops up all over BBHQ. Wander around!

I Remember... March 23, 1983

The critics mocked him and called it "Star Wars." But 30 years later, we are developing what Ronald Reagan proposed on March 23, 1983: the Strategic Defense Initiative.

(It was, otherwise, a slow day in history....unless you're a big space fan. On March 23, 1965, NASA launched Gemini 3, with Gus Grissim and John Young on board.)

(We messed up on birthdays last week, So we're not touching that today.)

The BBHQ Pop Quiz explodes: Previously buried between unused electrons, the BBHQ Pop Quiz has just gotten a shot of pure cane sugar.

60 seconds; one question; one answer. Simple as that.

The BBHQ Pop Quiz now pops up on our Home Page and on over 80 other pages at BBHQ.

No prizes here... not yet, anyway. But if you want more trivia, in addition to the humongous BBHQ Trivia Library, just wander around. The BBHQ Pop Quiz is all over the place.

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser

Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First our current events question:
The two-state solution in the Middle East. The press has incorrectly reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ruled out a "two-state solution" -- a state for Israel and a state for the Palestinians. But, the Palestinians have already been offered their own state... 3 times in the last 15 years. And each time, they have turned down the offer.
Is this true or false?
      True
      False

2. He's a cartoon character from our childhood. Naturally, it could never happen today. Who is this tough-lookin', gun-totin' hombre?

3. From the BBHQ Pop Quiz collection -
The 1969 movie was based on the 50s Broadway musical. In the absence of Google Maps, the lead song features these lines:
When will I get there? I don’t know.
How will I get there? I ain’t certain.
All is I know is I am on my way.

What is the name of the show?

There are no prizes here... it's just for fun.

The BBHQ Joke of the Week

OK; we have moved from borderline indecent back to the safe territory of mother-in-law jokes:

Harvey has always wanted to go big-game hunting. His wife, Lois, has always wanted to go on a safari. They compromise and decide to do both.

“Oh,” says Lois, “we have to bring my mother with us, too.”

“You’re kidding!” says Harvey.

“We’ll never hear the end of it. She’s coming with us.”

The first night, Lois rushes into the tent. “I can’t find my mother,” she cries.

They go out into the bush. Harvey has his gun. There they see Harvey’s mother-in-law standing face-to-face with a large, ferocious tiger. Neither is moving.

“Do something!” Lois shouts. “Shoot!”

Putting his gun down, Harvey says. “No way! The tiger got himself into this mess, he’s gonna have to get himself out.”

Have a great week. We'll share the fun again on Sunday.
