Creatures of the Swamp

Hershel's essays on the swamp creatures have generated a lot of interest. So we're going to run them again, this time, back to back. Since we first posted them, we have added some notes, pics, and other features.

Here is an excerpt from the first one, "Creatures of the Swamp":

There are tons of swamp creatures in our nation's capital. They are battle-hardened. Fighting. Many of them are members of an army. It’s what they do. They are very good at it. They've won some, and they've lost some. But they have never had to fight for their existence. This is going to be ugly.

Before we get into the battle, I thought it would be important to identify just who constitutes or inhabits the swamp that Donald Trump promised to drain. Hold your breath; here goes:

The Entrenched Politicians: There is a class of politicians in Washington, Republicans and Democrats – sometimes in the majority, sometimes not – whose members have paddled endlessly in the swamp for decades. They claim to represent the people; but the people they represent best are themselves. They are in it for power... their own power. They have been so polluted by the “beltway culture” that they have lost any notion of what really goes on in the country.

Eye Remember... March 13:

March 13 has been a very quiet day throughout our history. Eric Clapton left the Yardbirds on March 13, in 1965 (yawn).

And Disney released "The Love Bug" on March 13, 1969.

But for the rest of the time, I guess we were hunkered down, hiding from that late winter snow storm that often clobbers much of the country in mid-March.

And now, a word from our sponsor:

2. You all remember Disney's "The Love Bug," don't you? Well, he had a name. What was the Love Bug's name?

3. We're going to focus on girls' names here in the trivia section... until... until we run out of girls. We have binders full of them. This is a classic:

Who's peekin' out from under a stairway,
Calling a name that's lighter than air?
Who's bending down to give me a rainbow?
      Everyone knows it's ___________.

Who's the girl?

But not as often.

Persistence pays.

The BBHQ Joke of the Week
Today's witty piece of wisdom comes from Argus Hamilton:

President Trump in his speech to Congress outlined his plan to replace Obamacare with a new plan.

Health insurance is the world's biggest racket. I bet you, the insurer, that I'm going to get seriously ill.

Then you bet me I'm going to stay healthy.

Then I pay you a fortune, hoping you win.

Have a great week. We'll share the fun again next Monday.
