They said he was a warmonger, a reckless cowboy, a racist. They said he was too dangerous to have his finger on the nuclear button. They said he would start World War III. But as usual, all they had was words.



In fact, he orchestrated the fall of the Soviet Union without firing a single shot. The world is a far less dangerous place today because of Ronald Reagan.

I Remember... March 7, 1974

Boy, you think things are weird now. How 'bout March 7, 1974? In the midst of the Watergate scandal, Richard Nixon diverted attention for a couple days with a musical performance at the White House with Pearl Bailey.



After he played a few bars of "Home on the Range" on the piano, Pearl Bailey interrupted, "Mr. President, I wanted to sing a song, not ride a horse." "Wild Irish Rose" and "God Bless America" went over much better.

It was, indeed, a night to remember.

The goodwill did not last long, however. Nixon resigned five months later.

Ms. Bailey's career when on for much longer. In 1988, President Reagan presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The BBHQ Joke of the Week

At a workshop on dog temperament, the instructor noted that a test for a canine's disposition was for an owner to fall down and act hurt. A dog with poor temperament would try to bite the person, whereas a good dog would lick his owner's face or show concern.

Once, while eating pizza in the living room, I decided to try out this theory on my two dogs. I stood up, clutched my heart, let out a scream and collapsed on the floor.

The dogs looked at me, glanced at each other, and raced to the coffee table for my pizza.
