A BBHQ Insta-Quote:

Most people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility, and most people are frightened of responsibility.

Nasty atmosphere out there, huh? Makes you want to turn off the Internet and curl up with a good book.

Well, before you do, let’s see if we can soften things up a bit. Today we offer a silly version of a cute song by Karen & Richard Carpenter.

This Week with the Chicowitz

State of the Union - 2017

BBHQ has had our crack investigators snooping all over the White House in an effort to determine what the president will say when he delivers his first speech to Congress. It is a shocker. Here is what we found out:

The president will present his list of goals for the coming year. And surprisingly, they will match, nearly exactly, what he said during the campaign. He intends to do exactly what he said he would do... what the people elected him to do!

BBHQ has obtained the text of the portion of the speech which introduces his rationale for honest enforcement of immigration laws. Pay close attention.

Eye Remember... February 27, 1991:

The U.S. military, under the leadership of President Bush, turned the tide for the military, and achieved a major victory, freeing Kuwait from the the clutches of Saddam Hussein.

On February 27, 1991, President Bush proclaimed that Kuwait was free.

As Secretary of State James Baker had predicted it, "It will be sudden, massive, and decisive.

That it was.

And now, a word from our sponsor:

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser & Subscriber Evaluation
Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question:
We see a new tradition in the making... another wonderful holiday in the midst of winter in the form of a social protest. (Either that, or another minority group with too much time on their hands and too many minutes on their cell phones.) Anyway, a couple weeks ago, we witnessed the first celebration of "A Day Without ."

2. Last week we asked you who recorded, "The Epic Ride of John H. Glenn." Stumped a lot of you. This may do it again. That song was the "B-side" of what top-10 song by the same artist?

3. OK, back to "girl songs." We'll go out this week with a real easy one:
You can get anything you want at _____'s restaurant
You can get anything you want at _____'s restaurant
Walk right in, it's around the back
Just a half a mile from the railroad track
You can get anything you want at _____'s restaurant.

Who's the girl?

Grade our Newsletter: How did we do this week?

      B: Pretty good.

      C: So-so.

      D: Eh... not so good.

      F: A swing and a miss.

What say you? Comments for the good of the order:

The BBHQ Joke of the Week
We call this one, "Conversion Stopper":

Well, we have the travel bug here at BBHQ. But while we plan to stick to the ground, neighbor Don, a former 747 pilot, tells this story:

The German controllers at Frankfurt Airport were a short-tempered bunch. They expected you to know not only your parking location, but also how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground and a British Airways 747 after landing.

British Airways: "Good morning Frankfurt, British Airways clear of the active."

Ground: "Guten morgan, taxi to your gate."

The British Airways 747 pulls onto the main taxiway and stops.

Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?"

British Airways: "Stand by, ground, I'm looking up the gate location now."

Ground (with typical German impatience): "British Airways, have you never flown to Frankfurt before?"

British Airways (coolly): "Yes, once before... in 1944. But I didn't stop."
