The Real President's Day!

Yes, in case it had escaped you, today is the real president's day, the anniversary of the birth of George Washington (1732-1799).

To be honest, I do not remember much of what I learned in school about George Washington. But I know a lot. Today, most kids are taught only that he was a rich, slave owner and he killed people.

Much of what I know came from reading "The Real George Washington."

For under 25 bucks, you will re-learn why we so rightfully call him "the father of our country." This is a great read!

The e-book version is only $9.95.

And now, a word from our sponsor:

OK, our sponsor is not TurboTax. But honestly, how did we survive without it? Not well, huh?

And why do we need any type of tax preparation assistance? Oh... another topic for another day.

But for now, it is what it is. Thank goodness there is TurboTax!

This Week with the Chicowitz

Socialism in the Air

Socialism is in the air. Feel the Bern? Well, lots of Americans do — particularly the young. Well, it makes sense. Bernie wants “free” college tuition, “free” health care, “free” birth control, “free” abortion on demand, and high-paying jobs for everyone who wants to work.

Who would say no to that?

Americans under the age of 40 have been taught that capitalism is unfair and has destroyed their country. After all, look at the last 15 years.

Meanwhile, those people who deal with facts and the real world — and I proudly consider myself one of them — face a continuing struggle against those people who deal in feelings and fantasies and who just make things up to please an eager, gullible constituency. First among such issues is the enormous financial hole which we have dug over the last decade, and particularly over the last two and a half years.

I Remember... February 22

Compared to what happened on February 22, 1732, everything else seems trivial. Still... on February 22, 1980, the U.S. Olympic Hockey team pulled off what became known as "the miracle in ice."

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser

Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question:
Earlier this month, President Obama presented his proposed budget for 2017. The president's budget projects which of the following:
    A deficit of a half-trillion dollars
    A deficit of a quarter-trillion dollars
    A balanced budget
    Free college tuition
A federal loan guarantee for Solyndra
A World Series victory for the Cubs
The removal of Syria's President Assad
    An indictment of Hillary Clinton

2. About 25% of you identified the Broadway musical and movie about which last week we offered a small, unfair clue. Here's a better one:

T: Where are you going?
L: Chicago. In America.
T: Chicago, America? We are going to New York, America. We'll be neighbors.

Once more, what is the name of the show?

3. From another movie... actually a series of movies in the 30s and 40s:
"Me, Tarzan. You Jane."
What was the name of their seemingly immaculately-conceived offspring?

There are no prizes here... it's just for fun.

The BBHQ Joke of the Week

Johnny was upset with his parents' financial situation, so he decided to write God a letter:

Dear God,

My mommy and daddy need $500 for bills, and I don't know who else to ask. Could You please help?

Johnny

The letter was received by the local post office and put in the "dead letters" pile. The clerk, being curious of the letter addressed to God, opened it to see what it said. As you can imagine, he was touched by the letter and decided to help. He asked all his fellow workers to "chip-in" a few dollars to help a family in need. When all the money was collected, it came to $300. The clerk sent a money order in an official Post Office envelope with the return address simply: God.

Several weeks later the same clerk found another letter addressed to God in the same writing. The letter said:

Dear God,

Thank you for the $300, but next time don't use the Post Office. They have a $200 service charge.

Johnny

Have a great week. We'll share the fun next Monday.
