A BBHQ Insta-Quote:

The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.    ~ Mark Twain BBHQ

This Week with the Chicowitz

Love Songs of the Chicowitz

Love songs......

The love songs of our youth spoke of innocence, hope, faith, loyalty, eternity, and devotion.

My offering today is another celebration of the great boomer songs that were a part of our youth. It is almost sappy sweet. So be it. I make no apologies. I am a real sentimentalist at heart. I love this stuff! I really do.

The great love songs that I remember most fondly are ones that my mother played on the piano and listened to on her radio station. They were popular when.... well, when our parents were busy producing us. Nat Cole had an abundance of them.

Remember slow-dancing to Devoted to You (Everly Brothers) at the sock hop? One of the traits of a great love song is that it does not have to be complicated. In fact, the simplicity of the words and the music is part of the magic.

Here is my song for the asking
Ask me and I will play
So sweetly, I’ll make you smile

This is my tune for the taking
Take it, don’t turn away
I’ve been waiting all my life

Thinking it over, I’ve been sad
Thinking it over, I’d be more than glad
To change my ways for the asking
Ask and I will play
All the love that I hold inside

– Simon & Garfunkel.

We are so very fortunate to have grown up in a time when such wonderful love songs flourished.

I Remember... February 15

Most boomers are not old enough to remember that Disney's Cinderella premiered on February 15, 1950. But every boomer remembers the movie fondly.

And nobody alive remembers the sinking of a ship in the Havana harbor on February 15, 1898. But we were all taught to "Remember the Maine."

Boomers can better relate to the top 20 songs in February, 1975, which included these:
     My Eyes Adored You
     Best of My Love
     Some Kind of Wonderful
     Laughter in the Rain
     Have You Never Been Mellow
     Lonely People

The BBHQ Trivia Teaser

Here are three questions from the BBHQ cloud:

1. First, our current events question:
All the debates... all the talk... all the issues debated...
What is the one issue that has barely (if ever) been mentioned?
What national issue becomes worse and worse every day... with no solution in sight?
What critically important topic that affects every living American as well as hundreds of millions of Americans yet to be conceived appears to be “off limits”?

2. Here's another quote from our collection of Broadway musicals that made it to Hollywood. But this one is almost unfair. (Of course, who said it had to be fair?) We're just curious about how many of you really know the musicals of our youth. The show was introduced on Broadway in 1964; the movie, in 1971. The line, repeated often and asked pensively, to no one in particular, is "On the other hand..." What is the name of the show?

3. Early in her career, she billed herself as "The Devine Miss M." Today we know her as

There are no prizes here... it's just for fun.
