BBHQ Boomer Essays:

A Government of Cowards

Our Boomer-In-Charge here at BBHQ, Hershel Chicowitz, writes frequently about current events... from a boomer perspective. He is sometimes funny, sometimes provocative, sometimes a little of each. We hope you get a kick out of our Boomer Essays.

This country is in a mess. From top to bottom, our society, its morals, its standards... a total mess. Public education is going down the drain. Our reputation around the world is seriously diminishing. We’re still adding half a trillion dollars to the federal debt every year... Members of the executive and legislature can be described most accurately as a “government of cowards” for their failure to guide and lead this country.

If for nothing more, outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder will be remembered for referring to the United States as “a nation of cowards.” Early in the Obama administration, Holder proclaimed that Americans are “afraid to talk about race.”

Huh? Mr. Holder, no social issue under the sun has been discussed more loudly and more frequently in my lifetime than race! If anyone is afraid to talk about race, it is because he is afraid that he will be shouted down... or worse.[1]

Mr. Holder went on to say, “though race-related issues continue to occupy a significant portion of our political discussion, and though there remain many unresolved racial issues in this nation. we, average americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about things racial.

Well... judging from Mr. Holder’s background, his affiliations, and his obvious bias, it is easy to conclude that he has no idea whatsoever what “we, average Americans” talk about. He is not, and has never been, an “average American.” Like his president, he’s just making it up.

The coward here is Eric Holder, for his unwillingness to reveal his true agenda and racist bias during his confirmation hearings in 2009.

OK; I am done ranting about the despicable and corrupt Eric Holder (who, among other gross abuses of power, recommended the pardoning of the largest tax cheat in American history, Mark Rich.)

Besides, that’s not even my topic this week.

But it effectively sets the tone. Brace yourself.

In early 2012, Barack Obama was caught whispering to the Russian puppet Medvedev, asking him to tell his boss to be patient; that he’ll have more “flexibility” after the election.

It was Barack Obama who is the coward. He wanted to offer goodies to Russia, but was afraid to tell the American voters of his plans, lest they hold him accountable in the upcoming election.

Misleading, phony, dangerous, and cowardly.

(Second place for cowardice here goes to the press, who never held the president accountable for that blazoned act of corruption.)

But that is just part of a pattern for this president. Throughout his public life, Barack Obama has been too cowardly to tell the American people what he really believes and what he planned to do as president.

“Fundamental transformation.” If it was so fundamental and so important, why did he not spell it out to the public in detail in 2008?

The president knew that the cost of Obamacare would greatly exceed the promised ten-year trillion dollar cap. Everyone connected with it did. But everyone stuck to the lie. And today, they are afraid to admit it.

And today, every one of them knows that the end result of Obamacare will be health care rationing and the complete government takeover of the health care industry. Everyone knows it. But they’re all afraid to admit it.

Cowards... all of them.

Throughout the year, President Obama has more than hinted at what he planned to do with the illegal immigration mess if Congress did not pass “comprehensive immigration reform.” (In other words, amnesty. But he and his team members are too cowardly to call it that.) He has gone almost to the point that he would say that he plans to grant them all amnesty. But he has not used that word, and he has not been specific.

As the election drew closer, and the chances for Democrats dimmed, the president said that he would hold off action on immigration until after the election.

In other words, he will wait until he and his party will not be held accountable for flouting the law and granting amnesty to 15 million illegal aliens.

Coward. He is a cheap, sleazy coward, pure and simple.

The Disease Spreads

But cowardice goes far beyond the porous walls of the White House. Virtually every elected federal official acknowledges that the situation with ISIS is a serious and urgent national security issue. Is there any other issue that is more critical at this point for our country... indeed, for the world?

So, what has the president asked Congress to do in order to grant him the authority to act convincingly and powerfully?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

But wait... the Congress does not have to wait for his request. Congress can draft and pass legislation giving him authority.

And just what has Congress done in this matter?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Virtually nobody in Congress... especially those who might lose their precious seat in the legislature is willing to speak out definitively on this critical matter.

Congressional leaders in both parties are providing cover to members at risk by putting off any action on this until after the election.

Well, if it can be put off until November or December, just how critical can it be?

That’s the wrong way to look at it. We have already acknowledged the critical nature of the issue.

The proper way to look at it is that the leaders and members of Congress are cowards... cowards, all of them, for their failure to act on this issue.

Period.

But it Gets Worse!

Remember Bowe Bergdahl, the Army soldier who walked off his post and ended in as an enemy captive? President Obama traded five Gitmo terrorists for Bowe Bergdahl, who was promoted while cavorting with the enemy.

After his return to the U.S., Bergdahl was placed on desk duty while the Army “investigated” his case.

And that was the last we heard of him.

Oh, the Army has concluded its ”investigation.” It is currently “under review.” Come on... how long can a “review” take — even an Army review?

The findings will not be released until after the election... if then.

The main coward here is the leadership of the U.S. Army, whose members are cowering in a corner because the commander-in-chief wants to try to salvage his legacy. I suspect that if Obama has his way, this coward will be discharged with full military honors... and taxpayer-funded military benefits.

This president has even corrupted the U.S. Army!

The Last Word

As I wrote, this country is in a total mess. From top to bottom, our society, its morals, its standards... a mess. Public education is going down the drain. Our reputation around the world is seriously diminishing. We’re still adding half a trillion dollars to the federal debt every year... Members of the executive and legislature can be described most accurately as a “government of cowards” for their failure to guide and lead this country.

That is plenty of reason to throw them all out... every one of them!

Contrary to Mr, Holder’s assertion, it is the president and his team and the members of Congress who are the cowards here, not the American people.

But if the American people do what they usually do, and re-elect these cowards... this pack of losers, the American people will not be cowards... they will just be stupid.

The BBHQ Feature Album is "Old Friends Live on Stage (Deluxe Edition) (2 CD/1 DVD)," by Simon & Garfunkel. If you were fortunate enough to see them in concert in 2003, I do not have to sell you. The concert was terrific! This album collection includes 55 songs, plus their new recording, "Citizen of the Planet," and one of the songs sung by the Everly Brothers during the concert. The DVD was recorded during their concert in Madison Square Garden in 2003. For any S&G fan, this is a must have! But then, you knew that already, didn't you? Old Friends Live on Stage (Deluxe Edition) (2 CD/1 DVD)

The BBHQ Feature Book is “Bobby Rydell – Teen Idol on the Rocks.” This is a “behind the scenes” story of one of the boomers’ first rock n’ roll stars. Told in the first person, Bobby chronicles his short ride to the pinnacle of fame and fortune, his glide through the 70s and 80s, and how he nearly lost it all. Relax; it has a happy ending. Bobby was (and is) a “normal” Philly guy... with an absolute love of music and an amazing gift. For any fan of early rock n’ roll, it’s a wonderful story. And yes, Bobby Rydell is still on tour, playing to boomer fans all over the world. Click here for a closer look at the book.
