Boomer DVDS:

Great Memories on DVD

 Do your shopping from home!

Most of the boomers we talk to tell us that they watch little prime-time TV these days. It really is punk, isn't it? And what they show at the movie theaters is not much better.

Well, that's why Al Gore invented DVDs. Just in time for our middle age, many of the best TV shows and movies from the 50s, 60s, and 70s are now available on DVD for comfortably reasonable prices. In this section, we will spotlight what we (and you) believe to be among the best.

    Ironside; Season 1

It was 1967; realistic, legal TV shows were hot; and none was hotter than "Ironside," starring Raymond Burr. This 8-DVD set includes all 28 hour-long episodes, plus the fearture-length pilot for the show.

It's great boomer-era TV!

Click here for a year of Ironside.

    This Island Earth

This is the 1955 cult classic sci-fi adventure film. Aliens try to take over Earth to save their own planet. This is nothing like today's sci-fi films. It's not for the sci-fi pureists; it's just great nostalgia. This is a hoot!

Click here to take this trip back in time.

Heart of Gold - Neil Young

Neal Young's Heart of Gold DVD is a multi-media performance, and includes bonus features from a 1971 performance: "He was the King" and "The Needle and the Damage Done."

The 2-disc set includes six in-depth features, including some "behind the scenes" video.

This is a "must have" for any Neil Young fan.

Leave It to Beaver - The Complete First Season

It's about time they put this on DVD. This is the quintessential boomer-era TV sitcom. It's a wonderful show, and timeless in its simplicity and delight.

This 3-DVD set contains all 39 episodes of the first season. The Beaver was only 7 at the time. Even if you remember the series well, you may not have seen these shows.

This is a great collection!

Click here to enjoy the Beaver.

South Park - The Complete Sixth Season

Well..... if you are into the little rascals of late-night cable TV, this is for you.... or for your adult children.

This is the complete 1997 season, all 17 episodes on 3 DVDs, plus commentary by the creators of the series.

It's pretty funny stuff: sarcasm, parody, and some outright nastiness. Funny, but not for the kids.

Star Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Third Season

Set in the 22nd century, a hundred years before James T. Kirk helmed the famous starship of the same name, Enterprise takes place in an era when interstellar travel is still in its infancy. Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) has assembled a crew of brave explorers to chart the galaxy on a revolutionary spacecraft, Enterprise NX-01. As the first human beings to venture into deep space, these pioneers will experience the wonder and mystery of the final frontier as they seek out new life and new civilizations.

This great collection includes 24 episodes on seven discs, plus a day in the life of a director Roxann Dawson, deleted scenes, outtakes, and photo a gallery.

The original price at Amazon.com is $90.99 (though the price may have changed since this listing).

Star Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Fourth Season

The next great collection includes 22 episodes of the fourth (and final) season on six discs, plus a special feature on the "Mirror" episodes, Enterprise secrests, deleted scenes, outtakes, and photo a gallery. The extra features, alone, make this a terrific gift for any Trekie.

The original price at Amazon.com is $90.99 (though the price may have changed since this listing).

Just when you thought it was safe to go into the theatre again...... here it comes..... Jaws!!

This Special 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition DVD of this classic movie has been digitally mastered; it contains special, additional footage; interviews; and behind-the-scenes material. Boy, will this bring back memories! Rediscover the timeless film that continues to make entire generations afraid to go in the water.

"You're gonna need a bigger boat."

Yes, it's The Blues Brothers 25th Anniversary Edition, including the director's cut and loads of bonus features.

This 2-sided DVD includes an introduction by Dan Aykroyd, stories behind the making of the movie, musical highlights, a tribute to John, and production notes.... a bonanza for the Blues Brothers' fans.

This 5-disc set includes all 30 original episodes of season 4 of one of the most enduring TV series ever produced. You'll see Lucy and Harpo Marx perform the famous no-mirror routine; in one scene, Lucy sets her nose on fire. Guests include Van Johnson, Rock Hudson and Tennessee Ernie Ford. The original price at Amazon.com is $32 (though the price may have changed since this listing). Click here for your copy.

"'Have Gun, Will Travel' reads the card of a man." This is a great western from the late 50s and early 60s. But this was more morals than shoot 'em ups.

The 6-disc set DVD contains some "behind the scenes" information in addition to all 39 episodes of the second season. Guest stars include Harry Morgan, Suzanne Pleshette, Charles Bronson, Vincent Price and Morey Amsterdam.

It is a great show, folks. And you can have the entire second season in your hot little hands!

Gees, I thought this was funny the first time around. But now, all these years later, it is downright hysterical. How can you have fun with a WWII POW camp. These guys did it. This is great fun, folks. Skip today's nonsense TV sitcoms, and show this to your kids.

The 5-disc set includes all 32 episodes from the first season, including the series pilot.

Sgt. Schultz says, "Colonel Hogan if you ever escape... be a good fellow and take me with you." Good deal. Get your copy today.

The original price at Amazon.com is $33 (though the price may have changed since this listing). Click here for your copy.

Gees, it's about time, huh? Finally! Here they are: all 39 of the original "Honeymooners" episodes - -a 5-disc DVD set.

If you are a fan, that is all you need to know. If you came along too late for the Honeymooners, this is your chance to catch up to the rest of us. This is classic TV at its best!

Ralph: If any of the Racoons ever get sick, it'll be my responsibility to go and visit them.
Alice: Oh, that is a very important responsibility, Ralph. You better
start now and find out what the visiting hours are at Bellevue.
Ralph: That did it, Alice - that did it. You have just broken the camel's back with that straw. You have ridiculed my brother Racoons. You have just made fun of something very big that's close to my heart.
Alice: The only thing big that's close to your heart is your stomach.

The original price at Amazon.com is $27 (though the price may have changed since this listing).

If there is a better sitcom from the boomer era, let us know. We think this is the best. This 3-disc set includes all 31 episiodes, plus some of the commercials (which are pretty entertaining, too).

The episiodes in this set include the following:

Opie and the Bully, Barney's Replacement, Andy and the Woman Speeder, Mayberry Goes Bankrupt, Barney on the Rebound, Opie's Hobo Friend, Crime-Free Mayberry, The Perfect Female, Aunt Bee's Brief Encounter, The Clubmen, The Pickle Story, Sheriff Barney, The Farmer Takes a Wife, Keeper of the Flame, Bailey's Bad Boy, The Manicurist, The Jinx, Jailbreak, A Medal for Opie, Barney and the Choir, Guest of Honor, The Merchant of Mayberry, Aunt Bee the Warden, The County Nurse, Andy and Barney in the Big City, Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee, Three's a Crowd, The Bookie Barber, Andy on Trial, Cousin Virgil, and Deputy Otis.

The original price at Amazon.com is $27 (though the price may have changed since this listing).

Nah... the recent movie does not match the original. This 3-disc set includes all episiodes from the first season. It is in black and white, but that only adds to the charm of this delightful series.

The original price at Amazon.com is $28 (though the price may have changed since this listing).

It's the entire second season of the original blended family sitcom.

This 4-disc DVD set includes the following episodes:

"The Dropout," "The Babysitters," "The Slumber Caper," "The Un-Underground Movie," "Going, Going...Steady," "Call Me Irresponsible," "The Treasure of Sierra Avenue," "A Fistful of Reasons," "The Not-So-Ugly Duckling," "The Tattle-Tale," "What Goes Up . . .," "Confessions, Confessions," "The Impractical Joker," "Where There's Smoke," "Will the Real Jan Brady Please Stand Up?," "The Drummer Boy," "Coming-Out Party," "Our Son, the Man," "The Liberation of Marcia Brady," "Lights Out," "The Winner," "Double Parked," "Alice's September Song," and "Tell it Like it Is"

Whew! It's great stuff, folks. Loads of good, clean fun!

The original price at Amazon.com is $28 (though the price may have changed since this listing).
